Frequently Asked Questions
An eSIM is a “software-based” version of the tiny physical chip in mobile devices that identifies them on carrier networks. eSIMs allow mobile users to digitally activate wireless plans. The key benefit for international travelers is that they’re able to access multiple data networks on one device, making data roaming easier and potentially much less expensive
Digital SIMs or eSIMs work by tapping into a mobile network whenever your device is in range. This allows you to switch carriers without ever having to take your device into a store, and it also means that you don’t have to worry about needing a new SIM card every time you want to get a new device. It’s important to note that eSIMs aren’t currently enabled on all devices, but most devices from 2018 onward should have them.
The biggest difference between eSIMs and regular SIM cards is simply the ability to do things wirelessly. While conventional SIM cards have a physical slot that allows you to add or remove a SIM freely, eSIMs are digitally activated using QR codes or activation codes. Once you’re able to make the switch, you can use the same wireless plan on any device that connects to your network.
No need to worry about swapping your SIMs around to try out new devices
Switching between networks without the hassle of having a paper contract
Helps you save big on mobile data roaming during international travel
eSIM and physical SIM cards are both highly secure and make use of encryption and authentication protocols that meet global industry standards.
eSIM may even be considered more secure that a physical SIM as it is virtual and the risk of losing it or it being removed from your mobile device does not exist
Cellular data SIM doesn’t offer mobile numbers for calling or SMS. However, you can make use of all of your mobile calling and texting apps, such as FaceTime, WhatsApp, iMessage, Zoom, Skype, etc.
For eSIM-enabled iPhones (e.g. XR or newer models), you may manually activate Globi Mobi SIM by going to:
Settings > Cellular > Under Cellular Plans tap “Add Cellular Plan” > tap “Enter Details Manually” then under: SM-DP+ Address: Il this eld with rsp-1012.oberthur.net Activation Code: I this eld with the provided activation code (format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX)
Go to Settings > Cellular > under Cellular Plans click on the SIM plan > Toggle “Turn On this Line”.
This is how to check for iPhones running iOS 14 or later: Scroll down in “Settings” and hit “General” and select “About.” If “No SIM Restrictions” is shown after scrolling down to “Carrier Lock” , your iPhone has been unlocked.
